Mailbox Posts

So, you have a brand-new, beautiful mailbox; where is it going to be mounted? Surely not on that moldy old post you used for your last mailbox! Or maybe you just need to replace a mailbox post that has fallen over or is in need of repair. All our designs here at Cupolas Direct are unique and stylish, yet durable and easily maintained. We have designs and prices to fit a range of styles and budgets.

Just like our other products, our residential mailboxes and mailbox posts are designed for durability while making a lasting impact on your home’s appearance. Constructed of high-grade 5/8” molded vinyl board, our mailbox posts are easy to install and built to last. Our mailbox posts are all equipped with standard-sized arms to accommodate USPS-approved mailboxes. Whether your style is crown molding, paneled designs, or simplistic and boxed, we have the best mailbox post for you! Best of all, they’re shipped completely FREE!

How much does a new mailbox post cost?

Without shipping and handling, a new mailbox post will cost roughly between 300 and 700 dollars. Your final price will be impacted by material, finish, and style. Extra features such as decorative finials or flower boxes will cost around 50 to 100 dollars each, though they are optional. If you want some extra functional flare, we also offer high quality address plaques that will make your mailbox stand out and be easily seen by your postman. The mailbox itself comes separately, and you have your choice of choosing a new one or reusing your old mailbox with the new post if you so desire. Wherever your budget lies, we can help you find a high quality, maintenance-free mailbox post.

Can I install my own mailbox?

Yes, you can install your own mailbox and post. Installing a mailbox post is a great DIY project for any homeowner, new or experienced. If you’d like details on how to install your new post, you see our step-by-step guide here.

Mailbox posts can be installed with concrete or a stake kit, but we recommend concrete for stability and durability. You’ll need to dig a hole in the location of your new mailbox, secure the new post with support beams and fill with concrete. After the concrete has hardened fully, cover the post with one of our mailbox post covers and install your mailbox.

What are residential mailbox requirements?

All our mailboxes come in compliance with USPS size standards, but you will still have to take care while installing it to make sure it’s in the right location. According to the US Postal Service, your mailbox must be at least 6 to 8 inches away from the curb if you are placing it along the street. In terms of height, the entire post and mailbox should be no more than 45 inches high above ground and 24 inches underground. If the hole is too deep, you run the risk of hitting underground utilities buried in your yard such as pipes.

Be sure to keep track of this while digging the hole for your post; digging more away may be easier then filling the hole back in with soft dirt. Softer earth will compact, letting your mailbox post sink while the concrete is setting during installation. However, with a little care, even the most amateur of DIY-ers can complete a mailbox post installation.

After installing your mailbox and post, it is crucial to add address markers. Without the proper markers, it is possible your mail will not be delivered. An address marker can be as simple as plain numbers or as fancy as a stylish metal plaque. The fine details are entirely up to you and allow you that little bit of customization that will tie your house, yard, and mailbox together.

How do I remove my old mailbox?

We cover detailed instructions of this in our how-to guide, so it’s recommended you start there! If you are still confused or worry you might need help, a professional local handyman might be a better choice. However, we believe that removing and replacing a mailbox post is a great DIY for beginners and encourage you to try it on your own if possible.

What style of mailbox post should I choose?

At Cupolas Direct, we have a wide selection of mailbox posts to choose from to fit any style. When it comes to choosing the style and look of a mailbox post, there are many factors to consider. The type of mailbox post you choose will likely be determined by the type of mailbox you have, as well as the look you are hoping to achieve for your home. For instance, if you have a traditional mailbox, you may want to opt for a classic wooden mailbox post. If you are looking for something more modern, however, there are a variety of metal mailbox posts to choose from.

Considering the overall look of your home also impacts the style of post you should be looking for. Look for similar trim or edges to the trim on your house. Matching the color of your new mailbox post to the siding on your home is a great way to tie everything together and give your house that extra kick of curb appeal. No matter what style you are going for, Cupolas Direct has a mailbox post to suit your needs.
